What is a Technology Transfer Office (TTO)?

Technology Transfer Offices (TTO) are structures established for higher education institutions to collaborate with the public and private sectors regarding R&D and innovation, to protect the produced knowledge and inventions within the scope of intellectual property, and to transfer them into practice.

TTOs host important organizations carried out to ensure academic research is conducted on a healthy ground; to legally protect, register, and transform knowledge into economic value; to establish ties between the university's research centers and the private sector, as well as between researchers and entrepreneurs, investors, and industrialists; to ensure the production of innovation, R&D, patents, and know-how; to protect the intellectual property rights of the resulting value; and to find project funds for start-up companies along with encouraging the establishment of academic-based companies (spin-offs) within the university.

In line with these objectives, the Balıkesir University Technology Transfer Office was established by the University Board of Directors decision numbered 2023/4-18 on 08.02.2023.
